Excel™ brand windows have been the preferred window systems to the mass transit industry for more than two decades.
Numerous Product Benefits
Atwood’s Excel-brand window assemblies are constructed from durable aluminum frames with an Anolok® non-fading finish. They can employ numerous glazing materials for safety and convenience including laminated, tempered, insulated, acrylics, and polycarbonates which can incorporate different tints ranging from clear to privacy to solar materials. Atwood’s special
compression seal permits frame-flush mounting to the exterior wall. The inner aluminum trim, with compression
seal, fastens to the outer frame clamping the window to the vehicle.
Excel-brand sliding windows use weather-stripped center meeting rails which prevent leaks, and die cast lockable rocker latches to close them securely. Excel-brand transom windows have capabilities for gas-filled or stainless steel spring struts to ease opening and closing of upper transom windows. Excel-brand windows comply with applicable DOT FMVSS and ANSI specifications.
Beyond meeting government standards, Atwood’s rugged construction minimizes maintenance even under
long use in adverse conditions. With a 12-year-in-service life expectancy, Excel-brand windows don’t require
maintenance very often but when they do, installation and replacement is easy.
Innovative Products
Atwood designs and manufactures a variety of windows for the transit industry, including; egress or non-egress operable
transom, stationary, full-height slides, upper slides–lower stationary, upper stationary–lower slide, and upper operable transom with lower sliders. These styles can be offered in a traditional channel glaze or the quick reglaze system.
Anti-Graffiti Windows
Excel-brand T-3000 Quick Reglaze System helps reduce the costly expense of replacing transit bus windows damaged by graffiti. Once the T-3000 system is installed in the existing window opening, the quick reglaze gas-ket can utilize the Excel-Gard™
acrylic sacrificial panels. These nearly invisible inner panels, which are tamper-resistant, and recyclable, afford better protection to the window’s primary glazing. Replacement can be made in seven minutes—without removing the window frame! The Excel-Gard panels also employ breather holes which eliminate moisture build-up and greatly reduces fogging while also minimizing air and wind intrusion.
NexGen Commercial Bus Windows
The “NexGen” window is engineered to the customer’s size and configuration requirements and is available in egress and non-egress styles including stationary, upper slide and lower slide. The NexGen window offers several advantages,
including; a one-piece vinyl seal around the perimeter of the stationary glazing which reduces vibration and rattle during travel, a slider track with an angled profile which reduces water intrusion by allowing it to escape through the
water management system, and a one-hand emergency exit release handle.
